Bad habits: Take 2

So as my finger got better yesterday, I wanted to see if  my ring would go on (side note- I was very concerned with it never fitting again). I put it on at 8pm and then tried to take it off at 11pm. Well the good news is it did go on pretty smoothly but did come off quite as easy. As I tried to take it off, it wasn't budging. Apparently the infection wasn't gone in my finger and it had been swelling the whole time it was on for those 3 hours.

I tried lotion, olive oil, prep h, etc I pulled and yanked. Then I iced it for awhile to get the swelling down. Marc googled home remedies of how to remove a tight ring and everyone said to try windex and that it usually works. So as our last resort, we poured some windex on it and he yanked and pulled while I screamed. We got really close, but it just wasn't going to budge. Then the MAJOR swelling happened. It was terrible. I was beginning to panic and cry majorly. I didn't know what the heck I was going to do. We really did not want to go to the e.r. or have to have it cut, but we were very concerned with it swelling through the night and it cutting off my circulation. I really did not want to lose my finger.

ouch

nasty

About 1am we headed to the e.r and they had to cut. I didn't even care, I just wanted it off my finger.
This picture is so so sad to me.

They then sent us back to the waiting room to wait to see the doctor for the infection. After waiting about an hour, we decided to go home and get some sleep because no one was being called back. It was also storming terribly bad which made the power go out and they were running on a generator. I went to sleep around 4 and got up this morning and went to a clinic and got some antibiotic for the nasty, evil infection.

So there you have it. This girl will no longer be picking her cuticles. One bad habit down, 2 more to go.

Bad habits are Infectious

We all have them. For some it's biting nails, picking split ends, or maybe it's picking your cuticles. I would say my 3 terrible bad habits are picking my cuticles, picking my split ends, and the third is crinkling paper. (If you ever went to school with me you know what this is, if not well just be glad because it's super annoying)!

So my cuticles are always for the most part picked, you know red, bloody, scabbed over etc. You get the point. Well the other day I had picked both sides of my cuticle on one nail. So each side of was nasty. Side note- when they are really bad I pour hydrogen peroxide on them to prevent infection. It usually works well.
Well this weekend I was at the lake and because my nail was so messed up it got infected. Like real bad. I hadn't noticed for a couple of days and then tried to put my wedding rings on and couldn't get them on. This was the first time that ever happened and I knew there was a problem. I finally was able to get them off somehow. My finger was really swollen and red after that. It was definitely infected.
I debated on going to a walk in clinic but they were already closed since it was Sunday and thought I would wait it out till the next morning. It looked so much better.

Today it was a little better. As you can see some of the puffiness had gone down.

I treated it with hydrogen peroxide, neosporin, and my
Mother in law told me to mix baking soda and water together which makes a paste and sucks out infection apparently.

So the moral of this story is for me to quit picking my fingernails and kick this bad habit.

To be continued...
I will give you a hint. It involves the er.

4th of July fun!

Every year we head to the lake for the 4th! Its always a blast. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at the lake for the 4th. Our friends the Hartnesses came and my good friend Jennie J came as well! It was our cruise reunion. Unfortuantely Justin, Jennie's husband coudn't get off work, but it was still a blast seeing her considering she drove 11 hrs from Austin, Tx. She is so fun and always entertaining! I miss her so much and we wished they lived in NWA!

The house was full of friends, family and neighbors. We had a great time and had lots of yummy food. We also went to watch a couple of firework shows on the lake which was also super fun.

Hope everyone else had a great 4th of July! Thanks to all those who serve our country and make daily sacrifices for us.
